There was a big old fashioned radio console in the living room. I remember some things about our house on Mellen Street in Cambridge when we were first living there. The condition was diagnosed early and I started wearing glasses at an early age. I also have long thought that it might have had to do with my developing amblyopia. I have thought that this experience may have something to do with my becoming a fresh air fiend who detests air conditioning. I was told that I was kept in an incubator for a long time. She had been trying to get her Christmas shopping done early. My mother told me that she was Christmas shopping in Boston when she began to have labor pains and had to go to the hospital. I was about a month and a half premature. I was the second of four children and was born on Novemin Boston Lying-In Hospital (now part of Brigham and Women’s Hospital).
